The Enhanced Human: Risks and Opportunities

"The Enhanced Human: Risks and Opportunities" examined existing and emerging enhancement technologies, with a special focus on gene editing and artificial intelligence, as examples of technologies with broad capabilities and ethical concerns. Panelists provided an historical perspective, scientific background, and delved into ethical, social and behavioral questions still to be addressed.

The evening was co-hosted by the New York Academy of Sciences, the Aspen Brain Institute and the Hastings Center. Panelists included George Church, Ph.D., Wyss Institute, Harvard University; Josephine Johnston, L.L.B., Hastings Center; Jamie Metzl, Ph.D., J.D, Atlantic Council; and Meredith Whittaker, AI Now Institute at NYU. The event was moderated by Mildred Solomon, Ed.D., The Hastings Center.
